This year, 1970, marks the entry of Manitoba into Confederation and like we say everybody get.<l into the 01ct. The Queen, Prince Phillip, the Prince WaJes and Princess Anne arrived via the Hudson Bay route nnd made their contJ:ibution to the celebrations. Everybody to be doing .something. In Glenboro B. K. JOHNSON, his son, and grandson, RICHARD, a3 Uu.:ir contribution to the Centennial Project built a model walking plow complet-e with horse and farmer. 'fhis ina-enious model has been displayed at various Centennial c::elebraUons. The local newspaper (The Glenboro Gazette} picked up the story took a picture and here it is. THE FIRST GENeRATION The first generation at Bru othe fann of SE lt>-6-13 was Bjorn Jonsson. born and raised. in ICEland. In the year of 1876, he came with a big group of people from Iceland. He was a full brother of the famou.dcelandie poet. They were one ofthe fit1!-t in the Argyle municpality. Bjorn was considered one of the most outstanding leaders. He was a self educated man by reading. He was big, husky man, good naturOO, mosthelpCul to U.e needy people. He ted them at the time they were starving and dying in this country. He was a brilliant public speaker. He oonducted all Church baptised &11 the babies, buried the dead, He homesterul.ed the quarter of south-east in the yearof 1880, moved to ArllY.O in lSSl He was. appOinted a.s a oommun ity leader where he did the same work, J)l"t'ached the services in the homes. later in the community hall!. He was called Bjorn Bondi which means "a famous community leader ." His chii<tren Dr. Bjorn Jom>50n who was one of the leading mini.!!te:rs amongthe people. Dr Jonsson wa.s a ntigister in Minnesota for20 years and 20 years in t.he First Luthern Church in Winnipeg "J.'he second son wa.s Kristjan who was known as C. B.Jonsson, who took over his fa.nn . The third !lOn Wtti J. B. Jonsson who farmed jn Kandahar. Sask. settled in Kandaher also and Sigurojorg who was unmarried. Bjorn Jonsson went. to Iceland to educated the people amongCanada. He came b.'\\Ck on June 14, 1902, took l!ick in Winnipeg, came home on the train to Cypress River and walked to the fann in 90 degrees heat. He died on the 18th of June at the age of60. On July the community held a special Remembrance Servie., in the Grundi Church. At this service Skufi Arason conducted the Sigurbjom Johannasson delivered the fir.st reading. THe SECOND GENeRATION The ge,oond generation is Krl1tjan Jon.uon known as C. B. Jomson. Married in 189<1 to Thordise Bergvinsdottir. Mrs in Winnipeg, Anna, Mrs. Williaml!i in Vancouv er, John died in Winnipeg in 1965, a girl died at birth, Paulino, 1\\lrS. Jones in Va.neouver, Her man in Wynyard, Sask., Laura died at the age of 14 in Glcnboro.Hull1in Brandon, Carl died in Winnipeg aa a result of the war,and the younge5t Theodore knon as Teddy died from wounds in Hong Kong in 1942. C.B. JonMon took over of his father ns a leader. Be waa the president of the Church Board when Bru churcb. was built in 1910. He got people to work together in tho ehureh. He was the "Pathe Master"' fothe area which is called the Councillor today. He built the first graded road in Bru 'lol'ith the help of his son B.K. who ran the grader for 2 or S years. He was on the Board of Dircetors in Cypn!SS River when the first Grain Growen Elevator was started. He also served as a trustee. Being a ven fast runner he generally competed in and often won the 100 yard dash whieh was the sport at U1at time. He also enjoyed Icelandie wrest.Jinr. He was a great hoseman.
